What it involves

Centre Revisions La Seu is an authorised medical centre for the psychophysical fitness tests required to apply for or renew licences and authorisations for the possession and use of firearms.

Once the assessment is complete, we issue the corresponding certificate of psychophysical fitness, which you will need to submit, along with the rest of your paperwork, to the Guardia Civil's firearms and explosives office (Intervención de Armas y Explosivos).

When do you need this medical?

The medical certificate confirms that the applicant meets the physical and psychological conditions needed to hold and use firearms safely. It is a requirement of the procedure, whether you are starting from scratch or renewing.

Applying for a firearms licence or authorisation for the first time.
Renewing a firearms licence that is about to expire.
Applying for certain special authorisations relating to the possession or use of firearms.

At the centre we carry out the psychophysical fitness assessment for the various classes of firearms licence, including licences B, C, D, E and F, always according to the procedure each person has to complete with the Guardia Civil.

What does the check-up involve?

The assessment confirms that there is no illness, impairment or physical or psychological deficiency that could prevent the safe handling of firearms or pose a risk to you or to others.

What the psychometric test for a firearms licence involves

The assessment includes a psychological evaluation in the form of a psychometric test. It covers aspects such as:

It is not an exam on firearms knowledge or on firearms legislation. Its purpose is to assess the psychological aptitudes needed to hold and use firearms responsibly and safely.

The theory and practical tests on the knowledge, care, maintenance and handling of firearms that may be required to obtain certain licences for the first time are separate tests, and are carried out through the Guardia Civil or the relevant authorised bodies.

Emotional stability.
Personality and behaviour.
Decision-making.
Impulse control.
Attention and concentration.
Perception and coordination.
The ability to react appropriately in different situations.

After the centre: the procedure with the Guardia Civil

The administrative paperwork varies depending on the class of licence applied for. As a general rule, the Guardia Civil may require the following documents, to which specific requirements are added depending on the case.

Administrative paperwork

Completed official application form.
Proof of identity.
Certificate of psychophysical fitness.
Criminal record certificate, or authorisation to consult it.
Gender-violence record certificate, or authorisation to consult it.
Proof of payment of the relevant fee.
Specific documents according to the class of licence.

Additional requirements by licence class

Proof that you hunt or take part in sport shooting.
Holding a federation licence.
Evidence of how the firearms will be kept and secured.
Having passed the relevant capability tests.

For licences such as class D and class E, first issue may require theory and practical capability tests that are separate from the psychometric test. For a class E licence, for example, the Guardia Civil requires one test on knowledge and another on handling the firearm.

To find out exactly which documents apply in your case, we recommend checking in advance with the Intervención de Armas y Explosivos.

The medical certificate does not in itself grant or renew the licence. The decision rests with the Guardia Civil's Intervención de Armas y Explosivos, which will also check that all other legal and administrative requirements are met. We do not process the licence at the centre.
